Wilmington, NC – Fatal Bicycle Accident Leads to DWI Charge

Wilmington, NC (October 31, 2018) – In Wilmington, a fatal bicycle accident took place that involved a pickup driver. The accident led to DWI charges around 9:30 p.m. Friday night.

The accident took place at the intersection of Gregory Road and Banbury Lane. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a bicyclist identified as William Batson lying in the middle of the intersection. Police said that he died at the scene.

The pickup driver was identified as 45-year-old Brett Alan Matthews, who had been traveling on Gregory Road and attempted to make a left turn.

As of this morning, police said that the investigation continues and that additional charges might be filed.
